A wonderful close-up trick in which you demonstrate how caterpillars magically change into beautiful butterflies!
Five cards are shown; four of which have pictures of caterpillars and the fifth card has a colourful picture of Mother Butterfly.
All butterflies have "complete metamorphosis" and grow into an adult in four stages: egg, larva, pupa & adult. When the egg hatches, the caterpillar will eat the leaf they were born upon.
As soon as a caterpillar has finished growing, they form themselves into a pupa, also known as a chrysalis. It looks as if the caterpillar is just resting, but the inside the pupa is where all the amazing action is taking place and the caterpillar is changing into something of great beauty.
Using the laminated picture cards (which are about playing card size) you place the four Caterpillars into sets of two with the pictures facing each other and thus forming them into “two pupae”; the adult Butterfly picture does a “waltz” around the pupae.
When they are next opened, instead of Caterpillars, they have completed their metamorphosis leaving you with five colourful butterfly pictures which you can now display front & back as your young audience gasps and applauds this clever magical change!
