The ‘true’ story you tell is all about Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. As the story unfolds, the other reindeers keep him hidden in Santa’s stable and he is not allowed to pull the sleigh on Christmas Eve, for one thing he is too small and the other, his nose glows bright red!
Until that foggy Christmas Eve when Santa calls on Rudolph to guide his sleigh, but the other reindeers say he is too little – that is until the children say the magic words “Happy Christmas Everyone” and suddenly he is all grown up and able to pull the sleigh in the fog, with his shining nose!
During the telling of the story you illustrate it with a giant A4 size picture card.
The young Rudolph turns into adult Rudolph as if by magic – except the older children present suspect that you just turned the card around inside the stable, showing the adult Rudolph on the other side.
There is all the fun of the “turn it around” business – until eventually you get the message and show on the other side a colourful picture of Santa Clause wishing everyone a Happy Christmas!
The effect is a dream to work as no flaps are used. The method will truly fool both the older children and the adults present as well!
