School or Circus is a great fun trick that has been featured by both comedy & children’s magicians. On the downside, with parts of it being made of wood, it is expensive to produce, heavy to carry making it difficult to obtain these days.
Eddie for a number of years has featured a lightweight low-cost variation that packs flat at the bottom of his case, without losing any of the fun of this tremendously entertaining effect which is suitable for house parties, parlour shows, schools and close-up audiences of all kinds.
You show two jumbo Envelopes with windows at the front, inside one can be seen a smiling boy’s face and inside the other a colourful smiling clown.
These are printed on quality laminated jumbo A5 size cards. You demonstrate only one boy and one clown are inside each envelope but being careful not to display the opposite side of each card, a fact that won’t go unnoticed by observant children and adults!
To a story about a boy at school who wanted to spend the
day at the circus, and the clown at the circus who wanted to spend the day at school, you magically cause both the boy and clown to magically change places – and then return back to their original school or circus once more.
But your audience are not convinced – they saw you turn the school and circus around before showing the other side of each card and then back again showing the original sides – clearly the boy has a clown on its back and vice versa – they insist on seeing the cards, which you remove from the envelopes that are now seen to be empty.
Now follows the usual turn it around, show us the back, right round business as you lead the audience on.
Eventually you do show the rear of each card and there’s a picture of the SCHOOL TEACHER on the back of the boy card and an ELEPHANT on the back of the clown!
