Ventriloquist and magical entertainer Billy Day opened a new joke & novelty shop and to attract attention he put a fish tank filled with water and a few green plants, in his window, with a large notice that said, ‘See the invisible fish!’ soon a large crowd was peering into his window trying to see the invisible fish – some even claimed to be able to pick them out.
The above is my inspiration for this marvellous trick for adults and children alike. You show a jumbo A5 sized card on which there is pictured a fishbowl and you claim that it contains two invisible fish. Your audience will not be slow in pointing out the fishbowl is empty, so you get everyone to say your magic words and wave the picture in the air and show that it now contains two cartoon goldfish.
Wave the card in the air and repeat the magic word and the bowl appears empty once again. This can be repeated several times if you wish.
But your audience are not fooled and will soon tell you that you are simply turning the card over when you wave it about and the fish are on the opposite side. Cries of, “Turn it around.” and “Show us the back!” etc; You have all the fun of turning the card around in a circle, showing them your back and so forth.
Eventually you show them the rear of the card but there is no sign of the fish, amazingly it is a picture of a cat inside the bowl, for adults you then remark, “That darned cat got to them first.” For children you say, “The fish have made themselves invisible so the cat cannot chase them!”
Very easy to present and fits at the bottom of your briefcase ready to perform. Can be reset in a moment ready for your next show. Ideal for MCs, magicians, children’s entertainers and comedians.
