Several wonderful routines are possible for both children and adults using picture cards of colourful elves, each with its own toadstool dwelling on the back.
These houses you show as being an Elf Village at the bottom of your garden and the elves have a fantastic way of settling disputes and predicting the outcome of coming events, such as who will win political elections, football matches and so on, or who should get a rise in pay. So you offer to give a demonstration and pass out your written prediction.
All the female elves are dressed in RED, and all the male elves are dressed in GREEN. Two spectators thoroughly mix them together then they are dealt two elves at a time. When two reds are dealt, they are placed in safe keeping until later as also are the two green matching elves. When one of each colour is dealt together, they are disqualified. At the finish the two piles of pure reds and greens are counted by the spectators to see who the winners are, let’s say in your demonstration there are more reds than greens.
Your prediction is read out loud by a spectator. Despite the fact you have NOT touched the cards or the prediction, not only have you predicted the winning side but also predicted how many elves they have won with!
