Talking about the Devil and all his evil works, you show eight different picture cards faces upwards, explaining that the Devil invented the seven deadly sins; Gluttony, Wrath, Greed, Envy, Sloth, Pride & Lust, “And for good measure, while he was about it - Murder.”
Your spectator has a free choice of any one of the picture cards and may change their mind as often as they wish until they finally settle on just one sin card. You ask, “Are you sure that you had a completely free choice?” Your participant must reply Yes because they really have, to which you say, “The Devil is everywhere and may have controlled your mind and influenced your choice - let us see.”
One by one you now show the backs of the rejected cards and they all have a exclamation mark on them.
Once again you stress that the spectator has confirmed her free choice of any picture card and you ask her to turn it face down, she does so and it is the only card in your packet with a picture of the Devil as you say, “Then if you had a free choice how do you explain this?”
Without question this is one of the very best pocket tricks ever and it is very easy to do requiring no skill, if you can count cards you can do this in less than twenty minutes or so of opening the packet. Perfect for close-up or walkabout. A clever alternative presentation is also explained using the same set of cards.
