Forty years in perfecting and it can be yours by return of post. The late Fred Lowe and I were good friends, which is why Lowe showed me his newest idea called FRED before putting it on sale at a Blackpool convention.
Over the years I have given a lot of thought to Lowe’s effect, as I wished to perform it without using roughed or sticky playing cards. My first attempt was marketed by me under the name of ‘Fred the Red’ and proved a very good seller.
Fred the Red did not work on roughing fluid, but the weak point was that you had to have two packs of cards. I solved this and could then perform a version using just one deck of cards.
For the past 40 plus years I have been performing this, making many adjustments and it is now ready for release. As you can see from the title above I have called it Fred Outdone
The effect: Two people, a lady and a gentleman, are each requested to think of a single playing card and you claim that you can name their simply thought of cards (no force - they have a perfectly free choice) you name their cards calling the gentleman's card “Fred.” and the lady’s card “Jean.” Resulting in everyone thinking it is just a gag, performed for a laugh.
That is until you pick up a full deck of cards that has been on view since the start and ask the lady to name the card she was just thinking of. Let’s say she says the Queen of Diamonds, you take out from the deck the named card and lay it on the lady’s hand.
The gentleman also names his simply thought of card, which you remove from the pack laying it onto his hand, let us say its the Four of Clubs. You fan the rest of the deck both back and front to show it is free of trickery.
The lady turns her card over and her Queen of Diamonds it has ‘JEAN’ written on it and the gentleman turns over his Four of Clubs and it has ‘FRED’ written on it, both in permanent black marker ink! A double-barrelled miracle that is reset in a moment.
Only one deck of 52 cards are used, no extra cards. No switching, no forcing or sleights. Very easy to do.
