Here is an item that has stood the test of time, using simple props that are completely unfaked, whilst effective, it was crying out for a good routine, thus it has been somewhat neglected by most members of the magical and mentalism profession.
Eddie Burke has been quietly working on this for about fifty years now. In that time, he has come up with several completely different presentations, but this is his firm favourite that lifts the effect into a stunning feature performance act for stage, cabaret, close-up and psychic events.
The basic trick is that you show three large envelopes, one with a large letter ‘E’ on it, one has a large ’S’ on it and the third one a letter ‘P’on it. You explain that with their help you are going to try an experiment in ESP.
You also pass out to lady three A5 jumbo sized cards each of which has a letter matching those on the envelopes.
While you look away the lady is instructed to place the one jumbo card into each of the envelopes and honestly you have no idea which envelope contains which letter.
You also have three more jumbo matching letter cards and using your ESP you lay the these three letter cards individually one on each envelope.
Once everyone is satisfied that no jiggery pokery has taken place, the envelopes are opened to show the other jumbo letter cards inside.
Incredibly you have placed your cards onto the envelopes so that the three sets match each other 100%! As you claim, “That’s ESP!” as your audience applauds.
