This is an adaptation of Billy McCombe’s brilliant effect. A routine you will love for both close-quarter working & stand-up or when you want to put something a little different in your show.
A spectator is stood to one side and you explain to the audience that she is to be given a free selection from a number of mini posters of horror films, stressing that she will receive a free choice of any one but asking the spectators NOT to name the films when they are shown, these are counted from hand to hand and the audience are highly amused to see that the hapless volunteer will not receive a free choice at all as all the posters are duplicates of each other.
You now remove one of the posters and leave it back out in full view at all times – this you say is your prediction of the poster that the spectator is about to “freely select!” At this point the participant does pick a poster which she then holds with its face down.
Talking about your miracle you remove your prediction poster and hold it in full view – the participant now shows the audience her chosen poster – which proves NOT to be the one everyone expected but an entirely different one.
Looking nonplussed for a moment and pausing, you look at your prediction and then add, “and here is Dracula!” or whatever the wrong poster proves to be. So saying you turn the poster over in your hand to show amazingly it exactly matches the selected one! The posters can then be left for examination.
Reset only takes a moment making Horror McCombical a very commercial effect when table-hopping or similar engagements. Easy to do using no sleights.
